Thought of the week 3

As a soccer coach there are many times I sit and reflect on the many aspects that go into coaching. To look around at various coaches it is easy to see that everyone does everything slightly different. There is no right way or wrong way to coach in a sense, but there is a successful way and an unsuccessful way.

Why The MLS Will Never Reach a Global Market!

Due to growth and marketability it is the desire of the worlds big clubs to break in and take a strangle hold of the US soccer market. Soccer in North America is big business and the worlds biggest clubs see it as any opportunity to make their clubs into global brands. These clubs rely on bringing in revenue from global resources in order to fund their clubs ambition and overall dominance. Clubs such as Manchester United, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid to name just a few are

Playing To Win......

In today’s game there are two general philosophies or ‘game styles’; play to win, or aim to play what the Dutch branded “Total Football”. Firstly, we must differentiate between the two styles. Both styles can be highly effective, the key is the execution. I am not saying that if you aim to play Total Football you are not playing to win. Thought of the Week 2

There are many people who will come into our lives. Positive or negative they will have an influence on us. Some people come by chance, some come by association, and some people come because they were meant to impact our lives. This last group are the special ones, the ones that we need to help us see everyday as an opportunity to succeed.

Thought of the Week 1

The capabilities we have in our lives are determined by our ability to believe in ourselves. Each and every one of us are capable of whatever we put our mind to. The conundrum is, many people settle because they don't believe in themselves enough, or believe that dreams are only reached by a select few. If you are willing to accept this you are disabling yourself from reaching your full potential. You are rationalizing your thought process because it is easier to stop wanting something than to persevere and achieve it.

An All Too Common Mistake....

Amid the perils of coaching there is a massive misconception many coaches have within the game. As a coach I look around and see one fundamental error occurring over and over again. While it is my belief that anybody can develop the ability to be a highly effective coach, many coaches focus on the wrong thing. Too many concentrate on the structure of their training sessions rather than focusing on their delivery of the training session. What I mean is that the quality of the session comes from the delivery and not from the session itself. Obviously, the best situation is to have a coach that can

Motivation v Inspiration

“It is easy to confuse motivation and inspiration, motivation comes from within and no amount of inspiration can help unless you have this.”

Firstly let me differentiate between what is meant by motivation and inspiration in this article. Motivation is the internal mechanism an individual uses to prepare and work at their objective. Inspiration is outside sources that aim to provide reference and provide an individual with the motivation to achieve their objective.
